Hostel Toruma in San Jose, Costa Rica

Great value. Decent location. A little 'frumpy,' like not paying attention to daily maintenance... But me thinks the place is 'in transition,' internet spotty, leaking showers, dirty floors, ugly totally uninviting entrance. But once inside, the room was quite acceptable and beds very comfortable. The Hostel Toruma was extremely sufficient. It was not overly exciting, but it was in a nice neighborhood and was close to some great restaurants. The biggest issue we had was the noise all night from the street. It was never particularly quiet in the rooms at the end of the hostel. Street noise and the newly added train are loud and persistent. Also, ask for a sheet to go with your blanket. You will stay warmer. Beautiful building though and pretty friendly staff who know the area well. Andrew, from USA ~ 2nd Aug 2009
