The Shophouse hostel is right smack in the middle of the culture-rich Kampong Glam. Nestled in an enclave of shophouses - sartorial, gastronomical and cultural establishments form the fabric of this heritage area. On the train (MRT) from the airport, it will set you back about SGD2.50 for a 30-minute journey to The Shophouse. Just a 5 minutes walk away from Bugis and Nicoll Highway MRT station, guests will enjoy convenient access to Singapore’s numerous attractions (mostly just a station or two away). Buses from Malaysia stops at Golden Mile Complex, a 10-minute walk away from the hostel.

Minimalistic with a quirky edge, this independent hostel offer options for all types of travellers - from female or mixed dormitories, to private rooms with bunk beds or double beds. Guests at the Shophouse are entitled to 20% off the bill for all cafes under The Black Hole Group – The Mad Sailors, (working title) and Afterwit, all around the area! Wi-Fi and breakfast are provided at no extra cost, and coffee and tea are available all day in case you decide to just lounge in. The Shophouse offers laundry service and luggage storage. The vantage rooftop and lounge allow travellers to witness the picturesque view of Kampong Glam. Want to just Netflix &and chill? The snug sofa at the lounge is the perfect place for lazy days. Gigs and parties are occasionally held at the rooftop – the best opportunity to mingle, make new friends and share a tale or two. For basic necessities or emergency needs, a 24-hour convenience store, money changer and a hospital are also located a stone’s throw away.

Besides the Malay Heritage Centre, the Muslim Quarter is home to the resplendent Sultan Mosque, a religious landmark frequently visited for religious purposes and as a tourist attraction. Muslim guests will find it convenient as the mosque is two minutes walk away. Alternatively, a sejadah (prayer mat) is provided upon request. Halal eateries of various cuisines are aplenty around the hood. Bask in the good vibes of Singapore’s cultural spot that has been reinvigorated over the years, rendering a fresh vibrant spirit yet retaining its humble beginnings. Beyond the cultural aspects of Kampong Glam, you can explore the famed Haji Lane which is around the corner – visit it in the day and you’ll bound to discover the quirkiest knick-knacks in a quaint boutique. Stopover when the sun goes down to experience its vibrant nightlife. If you crave more culture, Little India is 15 minutes away by foot. Hop on a bus and you’ll be in Chinatown in 10 minutes. Within walking distance is the Civic District which boasts a plethora of museums and art galleries. If you are not quite the art or history buff and instead prefer to test your haggling skills, the nearby Bugis Street is the right spot for fashionistas in search of the latest trends on a budget. Air-conditioned malls such as Bugis Junction and Bugis+ are also within a short walk of one another.

TRAIN
From CHANGI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT station (CG2), board the MRT headed to TANAH MERAH station (EW4) and alight there. From Tanah Merah, take the MRT heading to Joo Koon and alight at BUGIS Station (EW12). Take Exit B, turn right along the Victoria Street and walk 300m to Arab Street. Turn right again and continue walking until you see the hostel. Your journey should take about 35-45 minutes and cost S$1.55.

TAXI
From Changi International Airport, your journey should take between 15-20 minutes and cost between S$15-20.

AIRPORT SHUTTLE
Please approach the Ground Transport Desk at the Arrival Halls for bookings. Your journey should take about 30-45 minutes and cost S$9 per passenger.
