DirectionsShow MapHide Map
Knight House is located between the two main squares in Tallinn- the Freedom Square (Vabaduse väljak) and the Town Hall Square (Raekoja plats). Whether you arrive by plane, train, bus or ferry it is easily reachable on foot or by public transport.
From the bus station:
Take bus No. 17, 17a or 23 from the bus station to the stop 'Vabaduse väljak'.
Cross the square and walk along Harju street. At the first intersection turn to the left and you are basically already on Rüütli street. Follow the road around the corner and very soon you will see our big pale yellow house (with the sign 'Knight') on your left side. The hostel is located in the courtyard, first door to the right.
From the harbor:
Take tram No. 1 or 2 (direction Ülemiste or Kadriorg) to tram stop 'Hobujaama', cross the road and change to tram 3 or 4 from there (direction Tondi). Get off at 'Vabaduse väljak'.
You can also walk to the old town (15-20 minutes). Enter from the Fat Margaret tower and continue to the end of Pikk street. From there turn left on Rataskaevu and keep on going straight until you see the sign 'Knight' on your right.
From the airport:
Take bus No. 2 and get off at the bus stop 'A.Laikmaa' in the city center. From there you can either change to tram 3 or 4 to direction 'Tondi' and get off at 'Vabaduse Väljak' or walk to the old town.
For the latter, go through the Viru shopping center and cross the road to the old town. Follow along the main street (Viru) and keep slightly to the left. Soon you should be able to see the tourist info and a big church. Go around the church from behind and you will be on Rüütli street. The walk should take 10-15 minutes.
Taxis that you find on the street tend to overcharge. Take notice of the price list on their windows (starting fee should be between 2-4€, price per kilometer around 1€) and make sure they turn on the meter. You can also order for example +3726441525 (Q-taxi) or +3726014600 (Reval taxi).
Expect to pay 5-10 Euro, depending on traffic and whether you are coming from the harbor, bus station or airport.
There is a paid car park right across the street from our hostel for 20€ / 24h. Cheaper options (5-6€ per day) are about a 10 minute walk.
! Notice: trams in Tallinn are not running fully until late 2015.
The building is the former residence of the Knights of the Livonian Order who ruled Tallinn in the 13th Century, also known as the Teutonic Brothers of the Sword. Next door to a former mint and medieval prison in Tallinn. We are directly beneath the Danish King's Garden, where legend has it that the Danish Flag first fell to earth. This all right in the heart of the Old Town (just 300m from the main square), but still on a quiet street where you will able to have a good night sleep!
