Hotel Tateshina (Shinjuku) in Tokyo, Japan

The staff speak great English, and are very helpful. A hearty Japanese breakfast is available for Y840. Small rooms, but that's Tokyo, and the price is right. Great location: about 15 minutes from JR Shinjuku (i.e. you're not in the thick of the madness), 4 minutes from Shinjuku Sanchome (also the gay bar district). One thing: I brought a "friend" home one evening, and he was told that if he stayed more than an hour, an "extra person" surcharge would be applied. So beware! Still recommended.

The location was good and quiet and close to the nightlife. The room was tiny but good enough for a quiet night sleep. However be very careful as the staff will charge you the hotel price ( a higher rate than you can get in hostels.com) if you wanted an extra night.
