Allegretto Bed & Breakfast
Allegretto Bed & Breakfast is a small, nine-bedroom hotel in the centre of Cerro Alegre, the delightful heart of Chile’s magnificent port city of Valparaiso. The hotel is in two recently-converted traditional “porteño” houses, built around one hundred years ago. It is on a quiet residential street literally round the corner from the bars and restaurants most popular with visitors, five minutes’ walk to spectacular views over the city and ten minutes from the city centre.
Our hostel is English-owned and run and, in keeping with the age of the house, much of the furniture is antique.
For entertainment, as well as the 1960 jukebox stocked with classic vinyl, there is also a piano, a subbuteo table football game and a jigsaw always in progress in the living room.
We provide an up-to-date guide and a free map to help you get the most out of your stay, and are also happy to help organise excursions. Guests also get a small discount in our nearby pizza restaurant.
We're literally just around the corner from bars, restaurants, art galleries and workshops, handcrafts shops and boutiques that are most popular with visitors to Valparaiso.
In the nineteenth century the area was home to the English, Italian and German immigrants who largely built the city. Today many of its grand old houses are some like Allegretto with ceilings four metres high - have been restored, and the area is a safe haven for visitors who come to enjoy its bars and restaurants, funicular railways, former streets of cobbles and panoramic views of the bay.
Allegretto is a friendly, family-run place, with all the conveniences and facilities you would expect. Most of our guests tend to be couples, but we welcome guests of all types, including children.

Getting here on foot...
From the bus station take any bus that says Aduana on the front. Ask to be put off as near as possible to Plaza Anibal Pinto. Cross the busy road and walk through Pasaje Melgarejo to the Plaza. From the far side of the Plaza take a taxi or colectivo (a taxi you share with others) up the street Almirante Montt which climbs the hill, and ask to be put off at the junction with Lautaro Rosas street. We are five houses down on the left at number 540.
Getting here by car...
At the bottom of the long, winding hill that descends into Valparaiso turn immediately left (signposted to \'Centro\') into Avenida Colon. Follow Colon all the way to the end, and then follow it to the right and alongside two plazas. After the plazas, turn left into Avenida Brasil and go past two supermarkets on your right. After the second supermarket, take the second turn on your left, a short street called Pasaje Ross which has traffic lights at the top where you should turn left. You then take the next right, and then immediately fork right again up the hill on the street Almirante Montt. Turn left at the next t-junction and then Lautaro Rosas is the second road on the right as you continue up the hill. We are five houses down from the corner on the left.
Allegretto is perfectly-located as a base from which to explore Valparaiso. We are in the heart of UNESCO's Heritage of the Humanity Zone, five minutes walk from the funicular railway Ascensor Concepcion and Ascensor Reina Victoria, which connects Cerro Alegre to downtown where you can find the port, banking and shopping district.
We are also close to the buses and trains stations, the main bus station is a 15 minute bus or taxi ride away. Next to Vina del Mar, Renaca, Concn and Casablanca.
