Hostal Portobello B&B in Valparaiso, Chile

This place is fabulous! It is a little more expensive and we ended up staying here because everything else was booked up for the Saturday we came into town. However, we loved it! We had a double room on the hill that overlooked the water. The room was very nice and we had our own bathroom. The location is interesting...we took a taxi from the bus station and it cost about $5000CLP because he had to drive up the hill and around. The hosts at the Portobello are so nice. When we first arrived, they made tea and coffee, and had a map and little printouts about walking tours around the city to give us. They also answered all of the questions we had. The only downside was the location, although the Acensor Artilleria drops you off only about 5 minutes' walk away, it's a bit of a walk (or taxi ride) from the main port to the base of the acensor. The welcoming nature of the hosts and their home made it worth it for us, tho Nicole, from USA ~ 19th Jan 2009
