Welcome to the International House of Washington, formerly the International House of United
Located in the bustling Chinatown area of downtown Washington.

We have many ways so you will save money and enjoy your stay in Washington!
You will have free Wi-Fi and high-speed cable internet throughout the premises, Print free, the first 5 pages.

NO ALCOHOL NO SMOKING NO DRUGS allowed in the building (including Marijuana)

Monthly rates are available.

You will get discount supermarket food card, movie tickets only $9 (not $12 to 15) to 14 movie theaters (7 minutes walk to get to, ,or use in theaters in other cities),
free rice and sometimes beans, discount coupons to attractions, free telephone calls to 60 countires- see below,, free use of computers (qq included) and more. You save money.

Our clean rooms include new hardwood floors. Some rooms include a private bathroom. The dorm rooms are very secure, with combination door locks.

Our clean 6-bed dorm includes a piano, refrigerator, kitchen sink and microwave.

Facilities include large lockers (30x30x38) with their own locks (no need to bring your own), games including Taboo, Jenga, Uno, cards, Pictionary, the Wii and golf putting. Our library of books include TOEFL, quiz books, phrase books, riddles and brain teasers! Yes many CDs Romantic comedies and coming soon 1,000s of movies and TV shows to watch free in our lobby-community room. Now also enjoy are new outdoor patio.

You can walk to the White House, the Capitol, the convention center, the free Smithsonian museums, restaurants, 14 movie theatres, Safeway supermarket, the pharmacy and the yellow line on the metro (just two minutes away).

There are many free places to go. Most museums are free and can take from 2 to 8 hours. Some people only stay one or two nights and are disappointed because they are rushed and can't do as many interesting and educational activities as they would like.

Our manager formerly served in a number of US government agencies, like the Department of State, US Agency for International Development,, the US Army, National Institute Of Health and the Government Accountability Office.

Prices do not include the local DC Tax of 14.5% and the statement 'Balance Due on Arrival is not accurate because it does not include the DC tax.

We have quiet time between 10pm and 8.30am. No loud talking, washing or drying of laundry may be done during this time. Ceiling lights in the dorms are turned off at 11pm unless all guests are awake and agree. Television sound is turned off at 11pm. Guests wishing to hear may use headphones. When using radios, games and other devices, guest must wear earphones, so as not to disturb others. If guests do not comply with these guidelines we reserve the right to deny accommodation at that moment.

Bedding must be returned to the office before checking out.

Living areas must be kept clean and neat. No clothes, bags or personal items are to be left in public areas; guests consent for housekeepers and staff to remove these items. All bags must be stored in lockers or under the bed.

After use, guests must immediately clean dishes and cookware and will not take more than a quarter of the refrigerator space when four people are in the dorms with refrigerator.

We recycle (glass, plastic, paper)

By Bus: Google 'Chinatown Bus' to get the best bus tickets:
About 5 companies have lowest rates from NY $20 one way (4 hr. 20 minute ride ,unless
traffic problems) and other areas. Philadelphia, Boston and Baltimore.
The drop of locations are in bustling Chinatown and we are a 7-10 minute walk.

Greyhound bus station is some distance from Chinatown and center of activities and we do not recommend it..

By Bus from NY
Drop off in Chinatown (7th and H St. NW area).Walk North (up slight hill) on 7th St., Turn right on NY Ave (about 2 blocks). Take 1st left on 6th St. NW. Walk 1 minute to International House of United Tel (1110 6th St. NW) Building with fire escape. There is no sign on building because this is an historical district and signs are not allowed.

By Air

From Ronald Regan National Airport. (DCA)
Take Metro-Yellow line into city (East side of platform) Get off at 'Mount Vernon Square 7th st. Convention Center'. Take escalator to exist.

On reaching street turn cross the street toward 'Subway food store, Keep going in that direction on M Street passing a large church on the left side of the street. At the corner turn right on 6 St. down the hilll to near end with TownHouse with fire escape # 1110. There are no signs because this is an historical district.


By Air from Dulles International Airport (IAD)
$60 by Taxi or #6 by bus (45 min-1 hour ride either means)

Cheapest way: Take City Bus 'Metro' for $6.00 per person from red, white and blue sign where buses stop. Bus Stop is a good walk to the right when you exit the terminal.
Get off at last stop L'enfant Plaza.

Here you have 2 choices
( 1) Take a Taxi, maximum $9.00 meter reading plus $1,50 per large bag and $1.50 for each additional person.

From here you can walk to almost everything: Chinatown, Washington Convention Center, tourist attractions, museums, the metro station, and the Verizon Events Center for basketball, hockey and concerts. The White House is just a 15-20 minute walk from our hostel.
