Borders Beyond in Auckland, New Zealand

The people who run this hostel are nice and I enjoyed my time here if only for a couple of days. The people staying here were pleasent too. I had paid for 3 nights and asked for a refund for 1 night as my bus left a day earlier and they were happy to refund it - that doesn't happen everywhere -so full marks to them. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I do have a couple complaints about the hostel though. The bed was terrible - the mattress was very old and you could feel the springs poking into your back and shoulder blades. Extremely, extremely uncomfortable! we stayed at borders for a few days, so we really got to experience what the hostel had to offer, and to be honest there wasnt much. The positives: the location is not too bad, its about a 20 min brisk walk to the heart of the city which is ok. The owner is always going around so you would feel quite safe.The negatives: showers were disgusting, shower trays were always covered in hair, some of the males in the hostel used the female toilets, you had to pay 50c for 6 mins of hot water w Padraig, from Ireland ~ 5th Jul 2009

We stayed in Borders Beyond for three days. The staff is very friendly and we had a great time there. It's very close to the more alternative areas of Auckland. You get much for your money. Axel, from Germany ~ 12th Jun 2009

Stayed at Borders Beyond for 8 nights, and the staff were incredibly friendly and great fun. Chilled out atmosphere; loads of cooking utensils; clean bed. I couldn't really ask for more especially at the cheap price. The location next to K Rd is close to loads of clubs and great restaurants too, if that's your thing.
