It was a standard Hostel. Pretty clean, and relativly comfortable. However, I reserved beds in the quieter 6 beds dorm at the back of the hostel and arrived to find myself in the louder 8 bed dorm overlooking the raod. :-( Other then that it was fine and pretty easy to arrange.

Not so much privacy coz get disturbed by other tenants especially during the sleeping hours at nite. We've paid for private room with bathroom but was used up by other tenants as well. Furthermore, we have to buy the mineral water to quench our thirsty. Anyway, it's quite clean and the owner is friendly

This is one of the most attractive hostels at which I've stayed around the world. The furnishings are new and attractive, and the rooms are spacious and bright. The owner is helpful and friendly. There is a large library of books in English and some in Chinese. I wish I had more time to stay in Hualien so that I had more time to stay at this hostel!

Formosa Backpackers is a really laid back place to spend a few days. Ya-Chen is amazing and will help you sort our your time in Hualien and in Taiwan. The hostel is clean and not far from the train station and downtown. Overall great place to stay...just expect to wait a while to use the bathroom, because there's only one!

This is a gem among hostels! Very clean and newly furnished in a nice ikea style, amazing photos and guest comments on the walls add a laid-back vibe. Part surfer-cool and all backpacker oriented, we really loved our stay here! The rooms varied from 2 to 4 to 6 and even 10 beds, each with its own style. We 3 stayed in the 6 bed room and only had to share it with two other guests 1 of our 3 nights. Formosa Backpackers Hostel really made our stay in Hualien and enabled us to have a Christmas to

When we got to this hostel the lady who works there was not around so some guy tried to check us in but we decided to wait until she was back just to be safe. When the lady got back she said the hostel was full. we explained that we had made a reservation already online but she said it didn't matter she had not checked them so it didn't count! Extremely disappointed we walked all the way to this hostel and then had to to turn around and walk back and find somewhere else to stay. Dont bother
