Very bad location! Full of druggies, homeless and prostitutes. We had to go to bed at 8pm every night - too scary to go out.
Nearly cried when we arrived, as we had walked through the roughest part to get there.
Hostel is very nice tho and clean.
Staff not particulary great.
Stay further north, much nicer up there!

I've been to hostels all over the world. H.I. San Francisco City Center was probably the best experience I've ever had in terms of activities scheduled, friendliness of staff, and demographic of guests. I took part in the "Pub Crawl" organized on the Thursday I stayed. It was the perfect environment to interact with people of my age from all around the world. We all had such a fantastic time experiencing the best bars in the area with each other. I couldn't think of a better way to experien

The hostel is located in a perfect location, can walk to most places in the city. The staff were very helpful and nice. The rooms were clean and organized. Great hostel I highly recommend it, but if you have a problem with somewhat sketchy neighborhoods I would book at a fancy hotel. This hostel portrays the character of the city.

The location is fine - but you\\\'ve really got to be careful where you walk some times in the area. It is definately not in the safest part of town. Not for the faint hearted.

This is by far the best hostel I have stayed in so far. And I've stayed in at least ten hostels throughout the USA. There is free breakfast and even pancakes. The staff is amazing and they organize awesome trips and events. The dorms are really clean and nice as well as the amazing kitchen. I had a blast! It's like a hotel, absolutely gorgeous! Go there its really cool!

Comparing to the nearest hostels. Hi SF City Center is a low to medium budget traveller, especially if you are a single.
The most I like is their kitchen, it's large and well facilitiated.
Actually you can take minus bus no. 19 to their place from the city hall that they did not mention for rather pulling a giant luggage like me.
