The rooms could be stiled up a bit and look nicer and it would be a good idea to put up hooks in the bathrooms, to hang up your clothes and towel. I will most certainly come back next time I arrive to NY.

Staying uptown wasn't a problem, we got a good feel for the community. Our room wasn't cleaned in the 8 days we were there which was not nice, but all in all it was a cheap place to stay that provided what we needed.

Very small rooms, not very clean... Corridors are dark. But It is very well located, the staff is excellent and the building is secure. For this price, you can't expect a lot more from an hostel in Manhattan.

I nice and calm place to stay at if you don't feel like mingeling with other travelers. I stayed for 8 nights and could defenatly stay there again if I come back to Nex York.

I just came back from my trip to NYC and i have to say that next time i will come in NYC i will stay at this YMCA. It's really a good one : clean, close to the subway and a safe neighborhood. I was a bit anxious about being a girl alone in Harlem but actually people are nice and i didn't have any problem.

I was looking for a reasonably priced private room with A/C, close to the subway in a safe area of town. The YMCA provided all of this and more. The historic building is a true gem! Gleaming floors in the lobby, clean common areas, free computer access, a fridge and tv in the room, a door with a lock, IHOP at the corner, CMart 3 blocks away, 1 block to the subway and a swimming pool. Three blocks away from the Abbysinian Baptist church and a short busride to the Apollo Theatre. I'd highly r

Security staff were great and very friendly. Reception staff weren't. No luggage storage. Harlam location is fine (not dangerous at all, loads of local families on the street even late at night) Aircon was very good. Not very clean, felt like a lot of long term residents were there. Could imagine it being a homless hostel.
