Hotel Toyo in Osaka, Japan

This hostel looks and feels more like a run-down apartment; it lacks the "hostel vibe." Bathrooms and showers are old. The worst is that the 1,500 yen rooms have no A/C, only a fan for the summer. Its great that its literally a 2 min. walk out of the Midosuji Line & its cheap. I've had way better hostel experiences in Japan than this. Its walking distance to some fun locations though. Location was fair, but the hostel was not worth the price. There was only one bathroom, and shower room, used by both sexes, and it was very run down and dirty. Also, only toilets available were squatter toilets, quite an inconvenience for disabled travelers. Staff spoke very little English and the map of the area provided, was not helpful! Not the best condition hostel I have stayed in - scruffy but not dirty - and yes there was a funny smell (of cats?), especially in the room.　However, the staff were extremely accommodating despite the lack of English, and all the ammenities were there and working (shower, toilets, internet etc). Well, this is a cheap backpaker hostel. It located a few minutes from the JR station so it quite convenient to go anywhere else in Osaka. Staff is quite friendly and speak some english . Room is preety basic with a fan and a tv but enough to have a good rest. Just there only shower at the 1st floor which is used by both male and female. Wei Hong, from Malaysia ~ 24th Jul 2009
