busy and noisy place (3o clock in the morning), not very clean... it stanks problems with bedroom keys (which are cards). In the room you can read FREE internet, but it's still 4 dollards per hour....Thanks it's very well located and the adviser for tours permited us to escape for 2 days this place laure, from France ~ 27th Aug 2009

Definetly for the younger people. I'm 33 and was completely out of place, and ignored and treated poorly by the other guests (18 year olds), they were actually quite rude. The first room we were in, was completely filthy, I would have felt cleaner sleeping on the street. The 3 girls already there, had garbage, food and dirty clothes everywhere, including their dirty underwear. They had a guy in the room and one of the girls had sex with him, with the 5 other females in the room.
Hi Aline, I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us, we have a range of accommodation for all types of people. Unfortunately we can not control the beahviour of guests in a dorm room we do ask them to keep there area clean BUT it is not always easy. Take care

I thought the cost of $230 a night was a bit high for what it was. Also, the shampoo/conditioners weren't renewed each day. We asked if it was a quiet room , to which the reply was, "Yes". In actual fact, it overlooked the street and the noise of everyone leaving after the bar closed made sleeping difficult. Anne, from Australia ~ 10th Aug 2009

overall it's a grand place to say although one or two things were a bit perplexing- like closing the bathrooms at 9.30 in the morning to clean them! and the same for the kitchen at 2pm, aka lunchtime?! reception is constantly busy so making enquiries is an ordeal. bar staff were great though!
Thank you for your comments regarding the hostel, we are trying to get things organised in suitable timeframes as possible to try and minimise disruptions to guests. When we close a bathroom on one floor we ensure that there are others open on the other floors. The kitchen is a busy area and people want to use it all the time but it does need to be cleaned. We close it at approx 2pm and 11pm daily to try and keep it in an orderly state. Enjoy the rest of your holidays :)

I had to buy my own locks and adapters. But overall, I\\\'m glad I decided upon Melaleuca after surveying the rest of the hostels during my stay in Darwin. :)
Hi Denise, Thank you for staying at Melaleuca on Mitchell, as you have stated we do do provide padlocks for the lockers and adaptors for telephones etc but we will recommend where you can buy them from. I am glad that you enjoyed your overall stay at the hostel. Safe travelling :)

Great location, great pool area. V clean dorm and quiet in female only 3rd floor. Toilets/showers clean and kitchen ok. Had read bad reviews but really it was very good. would recommend it.

Not worthy of the price, at least not for the private room. Floor and bed was dirty and the door handle was almost falling off. On the other hand, it felt quite safe. You have to buy your own lock for the bag locker. Quite noisy place, with doors banging all the time and people shouting at the corridor day and night. Definitely NOT a good nights sleep, I was knackered when we checked out.
Thank you for your comments. I have addressed these issues with the housekeeping and maintenance team that you have made and expressed to them our joint disappointment. We do have a security staff member on at night who does ask other guests to try and keep the noise down. We do not provide padlocks as we would need to take a deposit to ensure they are returned and most travelers have one with them. They can also be purchased from Coles across the road. Whenever I travel and I see a maintenance or housekeeping issue in the room by advising the front office staff they can take the appropriate action everyone always appreciates a second or third set of eyes. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your travels.
