It’s not the Ritz, but I dare you to do better for the money. This hostel is located right around the corner from St Charles Street and the trolly which will take you all over the city for $3 a day. It has a really nice central patio and very friendly staff. The rooms could definitely use a good cleaning and it feels like you’re going to fall through the shower floor… Other than that, a great place to stay in New Orleans. Sad to say I did not stay at the hostel. I stayed many times before, was fine. This time, I did not feel safe. I checked in, I went to my room and was uncomfortably eyed up by men in the garden who made comments about "looking good". They did not seem like fellow travelers, they just seemed creepy. I was with some male friends who said they did not feel safe and invited me to stay with them in Kenner. I came back later to turn in my bedding that I had put on a bunk and even my blanket was gone karen, from USA ~ 28th Jan 2012

I had a great time staying at Marquette House. The staff was very nice and so were all the other travelers I met there. This hostel is located in a safe area and is really close to the streetcar for easy access to the french quarter or uptown. Overall everything was great except there is no internet there!! Stayed in the 16-male bunk house. The mattress looked pretty dirty and the bunk house had a slight smell. However, the provided sheets looked clean and alleviated concerns of staying on the mattress. The bathrooms were usable, but looked like it had been a while since their last cleaning. The staff was friendly, provided useful information of surrounding areas and quick, friendly check-in and check-out. Word of warning, make sure you plan on checking-in only during listed times. Wi-fi didn't work. You get what you pay for. Try Joe and Flo's hostel instead. Matthew, from USA ~ 11th Jan 2012

Not sure if they have ever vacuumed the floor.Mattresses have cigarette burns.Pillows have gross sweat stains.Bathroom fixtures have lots of hair and could use a wipe down.Great price, disgusting place.I'm not a neat freak but geez general housekeeping should be a given when paying for lodging. Basic, but with everything you need and well kept. Helpful and friendly staff, willing to do a bit extra and follow up on any queries to check everything's OK. Great area, even coming back late at night it never felt unsafe (extra important when travelling alone), and all the facilities you needed were handy (supermarket, cafes, public transport). Highly recommended and would definitely use again. Kathryn, from England ~ 21st Dec 2011

It has a nice retro vibe that hearkens to simpler times. It did not have a TV or wifi access, but who wants to stay in when the French Quarter is so close anyway? Rita, from USA ~ 8th Dec 2011

Never got to even stay at the hostel. When I arrived there was no one to greet me and the door was locked even though I called ahead and told them I would be arriving on a late flight. Rang the bell several times, but still ended up being homeless for the night and much of the next day because of this. Samantha, from Barbados ~ 16th Dec 2011

We stayed in the apartment complex across the street which is made up of "efficiency apartments. Each equipped with stove, fridge, bathroom and dinning & seating area in this one big open space. I like the apartment very much and would most likely stay there again. The bathroom could use a little work however, everything works pretty well. The room sleep up to 6 people on three bunk beds comfortably.Great for group of four or more. Very relaxing area, courtyard and a block away from St. Charles Philippe, from USA ~ 2nd Dec 2011
