If you are going to stay in Yudanaka this is the ONLY place to stay. It could not have been any better. We HIGHLY recommend the dinner here, it was traditional Japanese style that you cook on a hotplate yourself and soo delicious!!
We had a great time staying at the Shimaya. The owners were incredibly helpful and friendly, and gave great advice on things to do in the area. We came to the area to visit the monkey park (which we did and which was amazing) but we did loads more as well. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
The owner is so nice and helpful! We had a fabulous time and would recommend this hotel to anyone. Definitely take any advice offered and see the snow monkeys.
excellent place to stay, takes you to the snow monkeys for free, the breakfast is really really good, he knows all the good places to go, but is sometimes a bit pushy,we would stay again
If you are looking for a place for an amazing Japanese experience with wonderful hospitality then Shimaya Ryokan is the place to visit. It is classic and made my visit snow monkey's remarkable and utterly enjoyable! Mr Yumota and his wife are very the loveliest people and incredibly helpful. I spent 2 weeks in Japan in 5 star hotels and I only stay at this lovely Ryokan for 1 night and it was the highlight of my trip to Japan.
