Bolod is a very warm host but can become quite unsettling when voicing his "political" views, which border on racism

Bolod is a great resource, and the guest house is located very conveniently near Sukhbaatar Square. When I was there, no hot water was available due to construction in the courtyard, though this should have been resolved within a few days. The guest house is pretty hard to find - it's on Peace Ave opposite the post office on the south side of the street. You have to enter a courtyard and go into one of the entryways (it's on the second floor).

Loved it, Bolod was great and helped us organise our own tour around Mongolia. Met heaps of cool other travellers!!

The location of this hostel is fantastic - right across the street from the post office, and a minute away from the central square. However, this location also means that the hostel is VERY loud at night. Since there is no a/c, the windows must stay open and you can hear EVERYTHING from the streets. Also, there is only 1 bathroom for 15 guests plus a few staff members, which means that there is always a long line for the toilet and shower. The owner, Bolod, is very nice and friendly. Unfortunately though, we found his tours to be almost twice as expensive as those offered by other hostels. Lastly, we have several complaints about services that were listed on Hostelworld but not actually provided: (1) Bolod confirmed that he would pick us up from the train station, but did not show up. We ended up taking a taxi in the end. (2) There is NO breakfast provided - this is a bit confusing on the Hostelworld site. (3) We were charged the full amount of the room, even though we had already paid a deposit through Hostelworld. We tried to explain the deposit to the staff, but they could not understand what we were saying in English.
