I cancelled my booking at this hostel when I realised that their actual room rate was many times higher than the rate advertised on the Hostelworld website, based on which I made my booking initially. I was also put off by their staff's lack of responsiveness to my inquiries.

The best hostel I've stayed in in asia. The staff are so friendly, it really feels like home. their tours are excelent, they really know everything there is to know about the country and have great guides and drivers

As far as guesthouses are concerned, Golden Gobi ranks as one of my favorites. Never have I met a staff and family that not only loves their country but wants you to love it just as much. However, it is a family that you are staying with, so if you want privacy I would either ask for the private room, or find another place.

On a recommendation, we stayed at the Golden Gobi and arranged a two week tour through Central Mongolia with them. They put us together with a fantastic driver and guide and we had an amazing time. Our few nights actually staying at the Golden Gobi were precious too, thanks to Mama. Great place, highly recommended.

Wonderful central location in Ulaanbaatar. Clean rooms and baths; very kind and helpful staff. Would go next time for one of the double rooms - hotel comfort for guesthouse prices...
