Two important points. 1. If you want an ideal location (15 minute walk to Tian'anmen Square) in the heart of a still very Chinese neighbourhood this place is awesome. 2. Your taxi cab can get you close but not to the door. When you show the cab driver the directions in Chinese he will realize this and get very nervous. With charades indicate you know you have to walk the last bit. He will drop you off at the end of a narrow lane way. Its filled with little shops, laundry hanging out to dry, old men gambling etc. You are perfectly safe. Keep walking. If it makes you feel better, show the hostel info to somebody and they will point that you need to keep going. Near the end of the alleyway is the hostel, and well worth the trek. A smaller sign says Leo Hostel over the door, its ok, you are at the right place.

AWESOME STAFF!!! What makes a place a great place is the people you interact with. The staff are really helpful and can arrange tours, taxi, bike rental, and give you umbrella or raincoat if you need. They are very generous. However, location may be a bit farther than some others. But I say its worth the walk. Nice street market! Restaurant on 1st floor. Free FAST internet + TV lounge + playstation

Good Hostel to live in. Staffs are decent, unlike those around the corners. Would have been better if there are more bicycles for rental. On the whole, we enjoyed our stay at shanglin hostel, and had no worries at all with our belongings there..
