we stayed at Alcala on the five nights we were in Quito during our month in ecuador - it was great - the rooms we had (11 and 10) were big, hostal is convenient for shops, eating and transport, had good and safe storage for luggage and valuables, staff were friendly even without much english, constant hot water for drinks and good coffee at breakfast - those who know Ecuadorian coffee will understand the significance of that! Was pretty quiet whenever we were there but February is not high season

Would recommend to any age group who wants a great american breakfast (no meat), clean, hot water, atmospheric hotel. Only problem was managere charged me for HostelWorld fee and added a 12% TAX??? Only place in Ecuador I was charged these costs.

The hostal was great, But you did not made my reservation, and charged me for the service you did not deliver. I hope you return my money.

Alcala Hostel`s price is clearly highly overrated compared to what you can find in the area: other hostels just around the corner are much cheaper - and much more fun. And then the owner hopefully also isn´t so reluctant in helping guests. If you'd like an overpriced borring hostel, then you can choose the Alcala..

fine stay, a little pricey at $13 a head, but good breakfasts and good size rooms, Carpets need changing!
