Spicythai is one of the better hostels I've stayed during my two month trip in Southeast Asia. The staff were amazing, going out of their way to show the guests a great time in ChiangMai, arranging trips in the area as well as night outs in town. The hostel also has a great collection of DVDs that guests can watch all day long. What makes the place really great is the people that stay at the hostel. Though the average age of guests is a bit young, everyone hangs out together all the time. It was a great experience.

After reading rave reviews, including one guy that told me that this place was the best hostel he ever stayed in, my expectations were high. However, I personaly would never stay here again. I'm writing this after spending the worst night of sleep in a long time due to the noise. I have nothing against party hostels, in fact it's a great way of meeting people (and I have while staying here). But the hostel is set up like a real house, no halls or anything, so when a bunch of people listen to a war movie at 3:30am in the living room, it's exactly like being next to the TV. Earplugs didn't help. I was woken up twice by some guy talking very loud in the dorm, and who decided to play guitar in the dorm at 4:00am. There are rules about the noise but obviously no one respects them. I have nothing to say against the staff, but I have stayed in many hostels and I've experienced much better ones. I'm also tired going to hostels were you have to leave your things on the floor because of a lack of places were to put them (a chair, a small table or a drawer). The lockers are outside of the room and are mostly for your valuables, not to store your main things. The good things are the free self-serve breakfast, free internet. So this is a good place if you don't plan on sleeping and don't care about the noise at any time of day.

The fact that i had originally booked for three days and ended up staying 2 weeks should be enough for anyone considering staying with Spicythai. If not then trust that it is an AMAZING hostel, more of a home than a hostel actually with great staff (Pong you're a star) and of course great guests in a fantastic location. I challenge anyone to find better, Kaye, England

The bathroom is the only thing I did not like at the hostel. The floor was really dirty and I don't think the shower has ever been cleaned. Other than that, it was a good place to stay.
