We invite you to stay with us on the banks of the Bras D'Or Lakes, so you will have the best position to explore every nook and cranny of our enchanting island! Purposely forget your map on the kitchen table; this is a place to relax and lose yourself in your surroundings. As they say here on the island, 'There is no wrong turn!'.
While the Cabot Trail is likely your main attraction, be sure to budget extra time for discovering unexpected charms. Plan to spend extra days exploring the other lesser known, equally beautiful drives Cape Breton offers!
If en-route to/from the Newfoundland Ferry drop in and spend a day (or two!) with us before/after catching the boat! Our accommodation is less than an hour's drive to the North Sydney ferry terminal.
Lace up your hikers , grab your swimsuits, bring your musical instruments and your appetite! There is a little something here for everyone, of all ages! Amazing hiking, sandy beaches, world class sailing, kayaking, whale watching, international music and tasty seafood! Here at Bear on the Lake Guesthouse, you are in the midst of it all!
Sit back & grab a hammock, your bed is made for your arrival, so drop your bags and relax! Look for the eagles soaring over the lake and the wildlife walking in the backyard!
BBQ while taking in a 180 degree view of the lake, and later roast marshmallows over the campfire! As the moon rises over the lake, make a wish on one of the countless stars above!
Our dorm rooms sleep 3 to 5 people and our private rooms come with their own private lounge and balcony! If traveling is a family affair, we do offer special rooms for families on the road. Contact us to determine what type of room set-up will work best for you!

Bear on the Lake was just like being in your own beach house. You can sit outside in the sun and soak up the rays, cook some sausages on the BBQ and toast marshmallows on the fire. I´ve just spent 6 weeks backpacking across Canada and this was the best hostel of the 14 I stayed in during my trip. A perfect base to explore beautiful Cape Breton, clean, very comfortable, lovely view, feels like spending the weekend at your buddy´s house ! If I was going back to Cape Breton, i´d certainly stay here again, take a full load of supplies with me and spend a week just relaxing in and around the lake - Excellent !
