I was worried about this place after reading all the negative feedback it received, but it's actually highly adequate. I'm not sure what the negative feedbackers expected for $22 a night, but when I was there the staff were fine, the bathrooms were clean, I felt that me and my valuables were safe and I highly enjoyed bedding down in the sublime upper west side.

didn't like it. cramped, cheap, people walking in and out at all hours even if they're not customers. showers are disgusting, staff knows nothing, and dont forget they take cash only which they fail to mention anywhere except the desk when you get there.
over all, i wish i'd stayed elsewhere. i didn't even get what i payed for, and it was only 22 a night.

I would never stay in this hostel again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. The only good thing was that the rooms do lock (at least ours did). The hostel will charge you taxes when you get there (even if they tell you over the phone they won't - which is what happened to us). The hostel's idea of air conditioning is giving you a table fan, and a room where the window opens (I was told they had air conditioning when I called). The pictures do not depict what the place would actually look like. The rooms were cramped, and the so were the restrooms. Not to mention the bad maintainance of the common room and the staircases, which had uneven steps, which could cause someone to get seriously hurt. The worst were the restrooms, which were not only small, but dirty and dank, too. And there were no hooks to hang my clothings.
Although I expected some unfriendliness from New Yorkers, some of the staff did not do much to cur

You can't beat it for the price. I felt safe, the staff was nice. It was a little dilapidated, but nothing big. It was what we needed where we needed it and we had no problems. I wouldn't suggest it if your looking for something posh, just something that will serve your needs.

locks on both the bedroom and some bathroom doors didn't work. the bedroom door didnt shut properly so there was little security.
