i came and my dorm was filled up so i was given a private room, which i wont complain about, until i discovered giant moth on the rotten moth eaten blanket... the entire place stunk! when i went into the bathroom to take a shower, i turned the handle, and it fell right off! needless to say, i was not very clean that day!!

In my opinion Dexter Hotel was a great hostel. Period. The cost was $30/bed (queen sz. and clean). The bathroom and bedroom where very clean. The neighborhood was beautiful and safe. The subway was 2 blocks east or 5 min. walking. Central Park was 3 blocks east or 8 min. walking.

The fire exit door was broken, couldn't open it from the inside. Could be very serious if something happens. The staff were quite rude and not welcoming at all.

Dexter House Hostel is your average hostel. The location was great, close to just about every transportation route i.e. bus and train. As for the hostel it self, the rooms were clean but the air condition did not work well. The filter might need cleaning. Each pod (about 5 rooms) had its own security key and room key. The front desk had a security camera, therefore, I felt very safe. The bathroom should have had a trash can, paper towels and hand soap. Some of the guest did not place the s

We stayed for one night. In theory the reservation system forced us to change from a 4 mixed room to an 8 mixed room, but when there the 4 person rooms were available. So picke one, which ended up having 5 beds. The room was decent, not dirty (but not shiny either), we got clean sheets, and had to make the beds by ourselves -what else can you expect for such a cheap rate-. The bathroom was clean enough, and shared among 3 bedrooms.

Bathrooms are gross. But the front desk staff was really nice. And its a great location, espcially at that price. i'd still go back. even though i preferred using bathrooms elsewhere and showering as little as possible.

I got very nervous because I made my reservartion 10 days previous my staying, for 3 people, and when I got there, they said they just had a reservation for 1. At the end, they put me in a mixed room, and I couldnt be together with my friends.
I want to thank the guy from the reception that made a hard work for us to find a room, I appreciate that! It was other staff mistake and he was there trying to solve the mistake.
I just think Dexter has to review the rooms booked, because they seel
