The hostel is located in a perfect location, can walk to most places in the city. The staff were very helpful and nice. The rooms were clean and organized. Great hostel I highly recommend it, but if you have a problem with somewhat sketchy neighborhoods I would book at a fancy hotel. This hostel portrays the character of the city.

The location is fine - but you\\\'ve really got to be careful where you walk some times in the area. It is definately not in the safest part of town. Not for the faint hearted.

This is by far the best hostel I have stayed in so far. And I've stayed in at least ten hostels throughout the USA. There is free breakfast and even pancakes. The staff is amazing and they organize awesome trips and events. The dorms are really clean and nice as well as the amazing kitchen. I had a blast! It's like a hotel, absolutely gorgeous! Go there its really cool!

Hi
Comparing to the nearest hostels. Hi SF City Center is a low to medium budget traveller, especially if you are a single.
The most I like is their kitchen, it's large and well facilitiated.
Actually you can take minus bus no. 19 to their place from the city hall that they did not mention for rather pulling a giant luggage like me.
Be book early, a must, recommendation from Hong Kong CL

Very nice hostel. Felt sad to leave. Breakfast is very good, jummi bagels :] good tea and orange juice all you can eat.
Very clean, the room I was in had a bathtub : D (I was in a 4 female dorm)
The only thing not so good is the location.. in day and night time the street is Full with homeless and drug addicts, and at night everybody strongly recommends to not walk around the area alone, especially as a female.
But because there are so much people around, the people are usually just annoyin

The area is not as bad as many people have written. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the well-populated shopping/tourist area of Powell St and the huge shopping and entertainment centres, and of that walk only about half is in a 'shady' area. The only time the so-called street bums spoke to me was to say hello, good evening etc, I was never asked for money, and they even moved out of the way if you wanted to get by. And that's from a female walking alone after dark. Granted, it had some potential t

The Hostel is very nice, the staff is very helpful, the rooms are clean, and I enjoyed my stay. The only problem I had was that the hostel was located in Tenderloin which happens to be one of the worst areas in San Francisco. If you are a lone traveler like myself, I wouldn't recommend walking to your hostel after sunset, especially if you are a woman.
