Check in was pretty slow with only 1-2 people on the desk even when the line was long, everything else was pretty much perfect, thanks for a great stay!

I'm very dissatisfied: booked the hostel for 5 nights / 3 persons, and when we got there the receptionist told us there was no free rooms. I would think a booking means guaranteed beds, but no... I payed the booking fee for nothing and the best came the day after we wanted to check-in: the hostel charged my credit card because I was not checked in! I filed a complaint to hostel.com, 1 month passed, still no answer... Please avoid these folks!

It's a decent place. The hygiene standards are acceptable and their are some very good facilities such a the great kitchen, on site laundry and common area. It's a secure building and the location is close to everything as well as being reaonably safe to walk back to at night. It is worth what they charge.

Nice Hostel to stay. The rooms are clean and every person in the dorm has its own locker. There are only two bathrooms on each floor, so that it may be crowded and not so clean. The location is very good, just 1 Block from the subway to downtown (10-15 min ride to Times Square).

I had a great time at the HI-NYC. I brought two friends from Europe (Germany and England) with me, and we all enjoyed the hostel. The highlight of the stay was Jerry's special 4th of July Walking Tour of New York. What a great opportunity, and far better than had we tried to see it all on our own! The warm, personal welcome from the HI manager as we registered was also quite the bonus.
The only snag was the singer in the courtyard on the night we arrived; I was dismayed that someone with

It was way better than I expected, super clean, very helpful and just like a hotel. I liked having the cafe in lobby that was a bonus for me. The bathroom's were to warm but very large, and way better than other hostels. Everyone was great to me. Hint of advise, take into consideration females nearing 50 yrs. old might not want a top bunk and when I booked my stay, I didn't have that option online. I got to have a bottom bunk tho 'cause someone left and I got lucky. This was part of my Bu

This hostel has the good the bad and the ugly. Its pretty close to the metro and its very clean and safe. Truthfully its more of a hotel than a hostel. The rates are also pretty solid. The bad news is that the staff were not super polite and to be honest, it was odd backpacking while having older families walking the halls. Again, more like a hotel. The ugly - no alcohol! You can't bring booze into this hostel and they locked the gate, preventing me from drinking out back. They tell you to drink
