The Host seemed friendly enough. the host and friends of the host all shared their AMAZINGfood with us. We never asked they just enjoyed sharing with me and my three guest who were not staying at that particular hostel. We sang songs. We drank. we laughed adn we definately didnt speek the same lanuage. All by candle light in the middle of a monsoon rain. i will say smoking pot anywhere around the hostel is greatly disrespectful and frowned apond by the owner greatly. trust me dont cross him ) patrick, from USA ~ 8th Jan 2013

We only slept one night here, but we were very satisfied with the place, however the rooms were too small - and the girl working there must've had a bad day, because she was in a one hell of a mood.... But well, could've been a one-time coincidence. :-) Kalle, from Denmark ~ 17th Mar 2012

My stay at Mata Virgem was very bad. The staff was really unstable, the bedsheet was filthy and the bathroom was terribly dirty.It is also too expencive in contrast to other posadas on Isla Grande. One morning the staff didn´t bother to make breakfast. I can understand why, since the woman that runs the hostel was up all night arguing with her boyfriend infront of all the hostelguest. She throw a glass in the ground and my friend unfortunately stamped on it.. Not stay here!!! Merete, from Norway ~ 4th Jan 2012

We actually booked at hostels.com, but already found the price a bit high (R$90). Concerning high season we booked anyway. Upon arrival at Ilha Grande we discovered not everything was fully booked and discussed the matter with the staff. In the end we decided for a different place, since they didn't drop in price enough. The staff changed from hardly interested to logically irritated. The hostel did look very nice and cosy, but was rather empty when we arrived. It definitely has potential.
