Uenuku lodge in , New Zealand

Really great place, actually.It had great staff, a very good atmosphere, and generally pretty cool people staying there.Not amazing accomodations but good for the money (I'm also a bit old for the backpacker scene).Only problem would be if you wanna be downtown this is not it, but it is in a funky, cool neighborhood, and you can wlak downtown in half an hour.Plus bus system there is cheap and easy.
