The lift didn't work, which was the same when I stayed at Hatters two years ago. Also, it was extremly cool up at the fifth floor, especially when you had to go to the toilets. You almost needed you jacket, to go to for a piss. Niels, from Denmark ~ 15th Feb 2012

The staff asked me to pay full price GBP20 for us two without consideration of my pre-paid deposit (10%) in this website. And I did not realised it until I left Manchester. I did tell her that I booked this hostel online. What the hell. The bathroom is doggy. You got only one press botton to get water. Nice place with friendly staff. Fair price. Close market, tram and buses. The building is surrounded on a dead street with no other functioning buildings but whatever. They let me store my bag for free before I checked in so I could go around the city. Good working kitchen and common area. Breakfast included. Too bad Internet is not free if you don't have your own. This was perfect for us while we were looking for a house to rent. The only thing that wasn't great (and it wasn't that bad really) was that you could feel every spring in the mattress. Hatters is one of those hostels that appears like it's sort of trying, but can't be bothered to really put forth an effort.Despite the brightly colored murals, TV room and pool table, the place felt dingy and neglected.The staff although cheerful, could really care less.The showers were clean, but the handicapped toilet was broken and spilled water over half the floor.There is such thing as a great urban hostel, but Hatters is not it.
