JGH upgraded our stay to a private dorm room on the first floor of the main building. There was no heating in our room and we struggled to sleep with 2 blankets over us. There are only two rooms without any heat and we had a large glass door as a wallon one side which made it colder. The subway station near JGH is not part of the main 23 districts of Tokyo but the line runs until midnight. It was great value for the money! Thanks, JGH! Prashant, from Canada ~ 10th Feb 2013

Very small and cramped spaces... can be a little smelly. You get what you pay for though. Overall, if you're in Tokyo on a budget this is a good place to stay. Not too bad. :) Jouapag, from USA ~ 15th Jan 2013

I lived in Japan a number of years and while back for a week visit was looking for an inexpensive place to crash each night. If privacy is high on your list this may not be your first choice. However I found the JGH staff super friendly, helpful and accommodating.Guests hang out and mingle as at any hostel which beats a hotel! The location is a little out of the way but if you want a feel for what it's like to live in a small urban town this is it. Good local restaurants. I expect to be back! scott, from USA ~ 14th Dec 2012

This was one of the most interesting hostel I've stayed. Mainly because it's the smallest inside and out. But the hosts and workers were very gracious. And there's everything you need for a very fair price. It is the cheapest in all of Tokyo. A 15 JR ride to center of the city is not bad. I would stay here again. Mason, from USA ~ 17th Sep 2012

Without a doubt, JGH Tokyo added to my experience in the city, which was brief. Mieko, the owner, is very sweet and goes out of her way to make sure you are comfortable and have a pleasant experience in Tokyo. If there are any downsides, it would be the size of the rooms, which are tiny, but they're well worth the value. I made several good friends after staying here and the atmosphere is very-laid back, welcoming and great for cultural exchange, which is good news for travelers. Check it out! "Bohemian" is the word here. The beds that have been put together look unfinished, and the partitions are a little ramshackle. That said, there's a palpable carefree atmosphere which I found excellent. I regret not taking more of it in. I was with a minor (teenage sister) so I couldn't go out and enjoy it, but the staff and tenants were all friendly and accommodating. The location is convenient and there's no beating the price for a night in Tokyo. I'll be back! Dean, from USA ~ 3rd Aug 2012

The hostel is fine, about half a hour from the main attractions in Tokyo, which means at least 290 JPY every time you want to go somewhere. The toilets are clean, the shower is fine, there’s also a kitchen, microwave, fridge and everything you need to survive. The only problem is that twin rooms are not completely insulated from the neighboring room, you can actually ear and feel the movements on the other side, which is not nice for couples. Bring an adapter for your devices. Diego, from Italy ~ 5th Jun 2012
