Though there might have been bedbugs, as repeatedly reported in the tripadvisor page, we were not bothered. staff was friendly and atmosphere was nicely laid back. we didn't find the facilities lacking at all... except for an untidy and vaguely smelly kitchen. Alfredo, from Italy ~ 13th Oct 2012

We reserved a 5 -bed room for 4 adults.1 mattress and 1 bed were completely unusable. One of our party suffered from bedbugs and had a violent reaction with about 6 bites, each 10 cm diameter and blisters on top like grapes. Kitchen was dirty. The hostel had been left in charge of an 18 year old inexperienced foreign girl. The good: very nice hostel with good character, the best value in St. Andrews, nice staff, comfortable rooms (stayed in the 5 bed) with no bunks, very active and lively common area.The bad: no lockers in rooms (or at all?), very little hot water in the showers.Overall, a great place to stay.I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting St. Andrews! It's not that convenient - they made a huge deal about the £10 key deposit, I even had to go to the cash point to take out more money to pay it before I could check in, and the girl on reception was extremely condescending about this. The reception's hardly ever open, so it's hard for you to get your £10 deposit BACK if you're planning on leaving early, and the kitchen is locked at night (with your food in.)
