over Port Campbell Hostel
Address: 18 Tregea St, Port Campbell, Port Campbell, Australia
We have a couple of great deals on offer to give you great value on beds and food!
... 15 beds for $15 for 15 minutes ...
Ever heard the saying 'The early bird catches the worm'? Well, throughout June 'The organised backpacker gets the bargain bed'! For 15 minutes each day we will make 15 standard beds available, for $15/bed, for use that night. You'll need to be organised to grab 'em - they will only be available on this site from 10.00am to 10.15am. Normal booking Ts and Cs apply, and it's first in, first served!
... Friday Beer, Bed, and Meal ...
Working in conjunction with our local pub we have concocted a deal that gives you a classic meal - a HUGE chicken parmy (chicken parmigiana) feed and a glass of icy-cold beer and a Friday night stay in a 4-bed dorm, for the bargain-basement price of $40.00! Simply click the 'deals' link on our hostelworld main page for more info. (Just remember: this deal is only available Friday nights, and by booking through this site.)
Now...
Rather than us waxing on about our place using advertising puffery, we let previous guests show you what we are about. And to help with that, we have summarised hostelworld guest's reviews from the last few months, below. Through their words you can read the good, the bad and (sometimes) ugly things about our hostel. (And can, of course, read each review in its entirety under the 'Reviews' tab, should you wish.)
If you like what you see, simply book a stay through this site. We would love to host you under our roof for a night or two!
An Aussie traveller who stayed in early May wrote of our excellent rooms, helpful staff and the value from our value-coupons. And a Thai guest found us to be clean and cheap. (Though we prefer to use the term: budget!) We also attracted similar sentiments from an Indian couple who stayed in late April.
An English couple stayed on ANZAC Day (April 25th) and wrote that we are a 'Great, modern hostel'. Malte stayed in early April and wrote that we were the cleanest hostel he has stayed at. Similarly, a young German guest wrote that we are nice and clean, and close to the 12 Apostles. (How close? 12km!)
Some Chinese guests who stayed at the end of March loved our beautiful environment, warm staff and value. And while a South African guest loved our free 1-hour WiFi, Pavel the Bulgarian struck a few issues getting the WiFi to work when he stayed. (If that takes place, ask our reception for help.)
An English guest said we were a really nice place to stay, but reckoned it may be difficult to get around if you did not have a car. To help get over that, we rent mountain bikes at great rates for guests to explore our coastline. (She also found some of our flies to be a little annoying.)
An English couple who stayed mid-March found the hostel to be close to Port Campbell's cafes and restaurants, and just off the Great Ocean Road. (How close are we to the Great Ocean Road? It runs right through the middle of Port Campbell.)
Finally, a guest from the US felt we were eco-friendly, and a guest from Thailand loved our location, our clean rooms, big kitchen and our large dining area.
So, those are some of the thoughts from guests who have recently stayed and we hope they help give you an idea of how we roll!
Like we said above, booking through this site is very easy and we would welcome you, from whatever corner of the globe you call home, to spend a night or two under our roof.
Our little town of Port Campbell (pop. 400) is a tiny fishing village located 12 km west of the iconic 12 Apostles on the famous Great Ocean Road in south-western Victoria.
Our hostel provides state-of-the-art amenities in a safe and very clean facility catering for budget conscious traveller and backpackers. We have a huge range of beds in 4, 6, 8 and 10-bed dorms, with female-only dorms available on request, for no additional charge. We also have a large range of standard private rooms (singles, twins, doubles and triples) and two ensuited rooms.
Off street parking is FREE, and all bedding is supplied.
We have got a large, fully-equipped kitchen, huge outdoor BBQs/grills and a massive, warehouse style dining hall. You can unwind while watching a DVD from our library, or catch up on the daily news from one of three daily Australian newspapers.
We have a guest laundry ($3.00/wash-cycle, $4.00/dry-cycle), and high-speed Wi-Fi internet ($1.50/30 min).
Our hostel is the only hostel in the world owned by a volunteer Surf Life-Saving Club. The Port Campbell Surf Life-Saving Club provides an emergency coastal rescue service along a 60km length of local coastline, including around things like the 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge and the Bay of Martyrs.
Port Campbell lies in a beautiful horse-shoe-shaped bay inside the Port Campbell National Park, with The Arches Marine Sanctuary only 1km off-shore, and the Twelve Apostles Marine National Park less than 10km away. The village is really close to some of the most spectacular coastal attractions in Australia. To its west are the Bay of Islands, Bay of Martyrs, the Grotto, London Bridge and the Arch; and to its east are Loch Ard Gorge, the 12 Apostles, Gibsons Beach and Moonlight Head.
The district around Port Campbell provides the opportunity to indulge in a large number of outdoor activities to suit the young, or young at heart - especially during the summer months!
For around $50pp, book a seat on a 2-hour boat tour on the Orca III, skippered by 'Fuzz'. His trip offers you the chance to see thing like the 12 Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge from the Southern Ocean - a site you will never forget! Also, if sea conditions permit, he will poke his Orca into iconic attractions such as the Loch Ard Gorge, or navigate under over-hanging arches… awesome experiences! He can also take you to some of the best cool water diving spots in Australia. So, if you are certified, you may wish to dive on one of the 15 known wrecks along Port's immediate stretch of coastline.
If you like extreme surfing, one of Australia's largest surfable waves exists on Port Campbell's doorstop. It's a 40-foot monster called 'Two Mile' that normally roars into life around Easter each year, over what the locals call 'Easter Reef'. There is also a gentler wave just east of Port Campbell Bay, and heaps of great surfing breaks dotted all along the coastline.
As you can probably tell, we are pretty proud of this stretch of coastline and welcome you, from wherever you call home, to Port Campbell, and our Hostel so you can experience it for yourselves. Hope to see you soon!
Port. Campbell . Hostel. Opened November 2009 Victoria, Australia.
Also: if you book a bed in our hostel, please read the email that will soon lodge into your email account that confirms your booking and reinforces the terms and conditions relating to your booking. That email also provides information and recommendations about Port Campbell and the surrounding area that may help with your journey. Among other things, we outline the opening hours of the fuel and grocery outlets in town (remember, Port Campbell is a tiny village, so businesses do not usually trade for as long as you may expect) and where to buy alcohol. We comment about mobile telephone reception in the area (not good news for all of you carrying a Vodafone 'phone!), and provide information on a brilliant walk along the cliffs close to Port Campbell.
While it is not mandatory to read that email, it does provide valuable local knowledge if you want to make the most of your time in Port Campbell, and this part of Australia.
Check-in: 5pm to 8pm. If you will be arriving outside those hours PLEASE phone ahead so someone is on hand to check you in. Please notify us of your Estimated Time of Arrival. We hold bookings for 90 minutes after ETAs. If you're running late, please get in contact so you don't lose your booking! Check-out by 10am. We accept Visa and Mastercard, subject to a 2% surcharge. Please see our FAQ in the confirmation email for further information.
