The Port Authority bus terminal is about 20 minutes by foot from the apartment and you can catch a bus from the airport right there at any time. You will probably prefer to catch one of New York inexpensive yellow cabs from the bus terminal to the apartment if you have a lot of bags. The ride should cost you about $5-10 depending on traffic. So basically, you do not need a metro card when staying at this location - just walk, enjoy the weather, views and shopping.
