This is the second year in a row that I have stayed at the Black Sea Backpackers Hostel in Odessa. It is always very clean and the staff is very fun and friendly. They are very helpful in finding your travel needs and giving you ideas for places to see in Odessa. The hostel is in the city center and has everything close to you so that you have an enjoyable Ukrainian experience. I highly recommend this hostel for anyone who is staying in Odessa. I will definitely will be returning to Odessa and staying at the Black Sea Backpackers Hostel!

Great location, walking distance from everything in the centre. Staff were really helpful particularly Sveta. Comfortable too. My only worry was that the front door to the apartment wasn\'t locked (despite the fact there were lockers).

I loved it!!! Their staff very professional, always ready to help in any way they can. The lady who cleans is superwoman. The wireless Internet is a super plus. I can't say enough about this place I super recommended. If you come to Odessa this is the place to stay!!!!

I can only give my thumbs up for this place, it has to be my favorite of the ones I have stayed at so far. I actually ended up staying several days longer than I had originally planned for. Just hanging out, having fun with the other guests and the wonderfully smiling and helpful staff was too much of an enjoyable experience to leave behind quickly. This feeling was shared with several of the other guests at the time. It must be added that the staff can be good at tempting you to extend your stay :-) Some of the other guests were recurring guests there, maybe they also had been left with this lingering feeling of wanting to go back to the Black Sea later. If you like playing games like Twister or darts you will have plenty of options. Or if you are more into late night visits to the jacuzzi with your new friends at the hostel, I was told that this is also a nice experience...

I've been to about 40 hostels in North America and Europe and I'd say this one had the most interesting guests. They were well informed about history and politics, had seen many out-of-the-way places and were fun to talk to. Three of them (al traveling separately) told me about their recent adventures going through corruption-plagued Transnistria. The hostel's location is the biggest advantage. There's a shopping center two blocks away with a huge selection of reasonably priced food and a large supermarket in the basement. The main pedestrian zone is and the Potemkin Steps are also nearby. Public transport available although crowded. I took the minibus to and from the airport, very convenient. The room I stayed had a slight "moldy socks" smell like most hostels, but they mopped every day. The showers were very good with no hot water problems. The free tea, coffee and simple breakfast are a nice bonus. The kitchen is very clean and has a large flatscreen TV with several hundred channels, but you'll need help working the remote. Staff was friendly and helpful. I guess the only major problem was a 300-pound guy about 50-60 years old in my room who snored very loudly. A receptionist offered to let me move, but I didn't want to pack everything. Only three women stayed here during my four-night stay. Fairly large lockers, washer, and dryer very convenient. All in all, not the best hostel I've stayed at but among the 20 percent best. I usually stay in hotels nowadays, but I think in Odessa this is about the best value.
