Yashi runs the best guesthouse around. He took us to dinner in hidden restaurants and cooked for us as well! Stay here.

YAY for Yashi!!! This is one of the best hostels/guesthouses I have ever stayed at. It only has 10 beds, but if you're lucky enough to snag one, you will be happy! Yashi only opened it 7 months ago, and is now in the works to open a cafe in a charming, cozy downstairs room. He is so friendly and helpful - takes the guests out to local bars /restaurants most nights - and its location cannot be beat. Stay here!!

The guesthouse was wonderful. The owner, Yashi, is great. Clean rooms and facilities. Nice people. Good location. Good price. You really can't ask for more when getting a hostel. Highly recommend.

Yashi is a fabulous host. He not only guided us to two fantastic places to eat in Gion but also ordered for us. He's a great cook, too! This guest house is easy to get to from Kyoto station, if you follow Y's detailed instructions (the #205 bus is easier and quicker than the train), and has a friendly, welcoming vibe to it. If you don't mind sharing a space with vibrant people, it's a real find.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at IchiEnSou, the decor was amazing and the location superb. Yashi was great fun and does an awesome job running the place. It was just too bad that I was sick from the heat and couldn't hang out more. Will definitely go back in cooler weather. Highly recommended.
