Tale from Darmstadt

TALE FROM DARMSTADT Submit a Tale here | More Tales
I visited Darmstadt recently and I can assure you that it has one of the best modern art collections in Europe - the other is Alphons Mucha in Prague. If you have ever heard of Christiansen and Behrendt, you really should go there.

To begin with I had an awful night in Darmstadt's hostel, because a French woman was screaming hysterically and a German could not resist dreaming of a forest and cutting trees there (if you know what I mean). So the next morning I woke up having got no sleep. It was raining, but fortunately the weather meant that there were no other people and visitors at the Marienhoehen, where the exhibition was.

It is on a hill overlooking this neat German town. I never expected, from the look of the town, that is had such treasures. I bought postcards of all the architectural specialties in the town - from the modern art period of the end of the 19th century till 1910 or so. Then I went looking at these places in reality.

I have never before seen more beautiful door styles, just in case you are interested in doors! It was a joy to find all these doors and houses and windows, worked in the style of "Jugendstil". I was happy to have had the experience and to get to see in a grey cat a white swan. Next time I do have to visit Vienna, however, I really hope they have a better hostel.
