I had a very nice stay. the hostel is pretty convenient to all the downtown fun. room was small but clean and functional. shared bathrooms were clean and always available. more like a hotel than a hostel, no real common room, didn't really meet other hostellers, but for a decent room, this was a good deal.

Sehr gute Lage! Zimmer waren auch ausreichend gross, und mit Lockers ausgestattet. Frische Handtuecher jeden Tag und saubere Badezimmer sind auch nicht zu verachten. Aber leider gabs keinen richtigen Gemeinschaftsraum und/oder Kueche.

We weren't actually able to stay, we booked a reservation through the website, and when we showed up there were no rooms available.

The name "AAE San Diego 500 West Hotel and Hostel " NEVER is showed in reception, only "500 WEST HOTEL", when i arrived i asked to the tall guy and he was rude, the i had to go down and asked to YMCA receptionist and he helped me. Please take care when a tourist arrive without the enogh information.
Dear Daniel, Sorry you were confused. We have signs on both sides of our front door, that clearly state we are AAE Hotels & Hostel Members! The reception is the same at the hotel or the hostel portion check in. I will speak to staff about being friendly. I thank you for giving us a 100% on location and hope you enjoyed your stay all the same.

It is very close to the amtrack train station but it is basically a hotel. I met a few people from the dorms and they called it the YMCA so Im not sure if it is really a hostel but it was basically just a really cheap looking hotel

I am not a smoker. Need more security for smoking. Guests were smoking in the Hallways with the windows open other than that I had a great stay. Wish you the best. By the way are there any AAE Hostels or affiliates in Seattle Washington?

This was an excellent stay that was one of the few places that actually exceeded my expectations and was a great value. It's very close to the train station (a block and a half) and a block from the San Diego trolley. Buses are available for most other attractions nearby. The rooms were VERY clean, and I am frankly uncertain how the shared bathrooms were kept so clean.
