Green Tortoise Hostel is a nice and friendly place to stay in San Francisco. It is right at the heart of the city and everywhere is close by. This place was so loud! I was in one of the rooms that faced the street and I felt like I was trying to sleep inside the club on the Saturday. Friday was loud but not as loud. Too many clubs around. A huge locker where you can put anything there!!!! Staffs are super friendly and helpful!!! Love the breakfast and free dinner nights!!! The only thing you have to pay attention is this hostel is located in an area full of adult night clubs and it gets so noisy at night time- ready ur ear plugs!!! Weekend party is not my favorite. It's very noisy...
Funny, the first thing our Hostelworld listing says: "San Francisco\'s Favorite P A R T Y Hostel!" Wish you had read that instead of just coming becuase we are top rated. Our beds are big and have outlets and reading lights, plus a locker under the bed to keep your things secure. And a nice comforter to keep you warm - we want you to sleep good. Our location is full of Beat history and the Beat Museaum is 20 steps away. After the museum is Little Italy (or North Beach) and Chinatown, two great locations for restaurants. And there is only one hostel closer to Fisherman's Wharf.

Great stay, clean and friendly staff. Close to the beginning of the Pier, Chinatown and the italian district
Thank you for such a glowing review!! Unfortunately for us any rating under 91% brings us down as you may well know. It is a difficult rating system where people are required to rate hostels and may have nounderstanding that a 78% is infact a really bad score. Again thanks for taking the time to write. GT Staff

Everything was awesome, good location, safe neighborhood, professional and extremly helpful staff, free breakfast - bagels, three time delicious free dinner, many organized events during the week, clean rooms, free internet... I stayed there with a friend who is not a real fan of hostels and she loved it there. Rooms were cleaned, as well as bathrooms and they even order a shuttle bus to the airport for only 14 USD.
