Wow, what an experience..... The Team at Surf City combined with the amazing stretch of surfable coastline and abundant amount of happening bars on your doorstep made this one of my favourite experiences..... The team is down to earth and very willing to provide help wherever needed.... i.e. purchasing a vehicle, or getting around town..... Margharitas at Sunset or seafood fresh out of the ocean....... all readily available! Thanks guys..."Well get him when he comes back in" (insert Point Brea Joel, from Australia ~ 21st Jan 2012

The regulars ... people who are long term residents ... kind of take over the whole feel of the space. All the energy is based on their stuff and schedules, likes and dislikes about loud music, drinking, partying etc ... so its not completely newbie user friendly. If that makes sense? But the location makes up for it when you are not indoors at the space. And i went during slow season so the energy might be dif than the usual. Over all a good experience. Amazing location right next to the beach. Nice staff and mostly nice guest as well. Unfortunately the hostel is right above and between two clubs so it is very noisy, really noisy. As noisy that you can not sleep before 2 am when the clubs are closing. Florian, from Germany ~ 29th Nov 2011

Good & Terrible location. It's literally above bars and nightclubs. I checked in at 12am Friday morning, to incredibly loud music that made my bed and whole body vibrate... didn't sleep well until Sunday night. I even invested in some earplugs, but they don't stop your head from throbbing to the music below. I stayed on the 1st floor of the hostel, which is just above the insanely loud music (that gets louder as the night progresses). Awesome location for a relaxing beach stay. Not close to many sights like Hollywood, but a great location itself. Bike ride to venice and Santa Monica beaches are a great easy to spend a more active day. Staff were helpful and friendly. Rooms fairly clean, blinds don't work so the sun wakes you up early. Met some great people while chilling at Surf City. The location right near the pier was great, and Hermosa Beach was beautiful. Plenty of bars and restaurants around, and a great atmosphere in both the town and hostel. Hired bikes for $10 and rode to Venice Beach and Santa Monica pier (about 45km round-trip), which was a major highlight. The ride follows the beach and a marina the entire way and is a must-do (is also a very flat ride for those who don't cycle much). Rooms are cleaned daily, and Alice, from Australia ~ 3rd Dec 2011

The hostel is great, located in the best place: near the beach and local pubs. It's a little bit loud in the night but it should be no problem for a people, who want to fun. I can recommend this hostel for youg people. The service is very helpful and the atmosphere is great... Igor, from Poland ~ 29th Aug 2011

Don't go to this hostel if you want to go to hollywood or downtown..it takes more than 2 hours by public transportation to get there, and almost impossible to come back after 8pm. Very poor breakfast. good if you just want to party close to the beach, as a noisy bar on the first floor will keep you awake. we reserved in advance a 4 bed dorm (and paid for it) but they gave us a 6 bed instead while saying that they couldn't garantee our reservation?!? first time in more than 20 hostels.
