Sonam International Youth Hostel is located at 11 South Digi Road in the heart of Lhasa, close to "Medicine King" Mountain with its stone carvings, only a 15-minute walk from the Potala Palace, and right near many restaurants and eateries. Not much farther away are such tourist sites as the Nobulinka, Tibet Museum, "Xue" Museum (a museum of Tibetan history), GuanDi Shrine, and Dragon King Park. With its access to all these spots, plus its scenic location and easy access to public transportation, this hostel is a comfortable and very convenient place to stay. In Tibetan, "Sonam" means "eternal blessing." However, the word also embodies a deeper connotation: If people would extend righteousness and mercy, revere honesty, show humility and gentleness, maintain a peaceful attitude, and demonstrate love and compassion, then they will be eternally blessed. It is the desire of us at Lhasa''s Sonam International Youth Hostel that our guest house manifest this deeper meaning and, in so doing, to bless the numerous guests that make their way to our hostel.

Sonam International Youth Hostel is composed of two buildings situated on either side of a charmingly simple yet lush green courtyard. The buildings and garden together provide a refreshing blend of intimacy and openness. As you come in through the Tibet iron gates and wind past the small Tibetan stone wall, the courtyard's trees and flowers reach out to welcome and invite you in.
Both of the two buildings---a 3-story main building and a smaller 2-story wooden structure--- beautifully compliment each other across the courtyard with their typical Lhasa architecture and lattice-window style. The hostel's main building has 16 guest rooms in all, keeping it homey and personal. Each room exudes Tibetan charm, being tastefully decorated in Tibetan style. The rooms consist of standard twin rooms, 2-person rooms with double beds, 3-person rooms, and rooms for larger groups. Each room has its own private bathroom, instant hot-water pot for heating drinking water, and TV. Internet access is available in the coffee house across the courtyard and some rooms.
Within the 2-story wooden cabin-like building, coffee and food is served. Here the Tibetan red and yellow walls hang with assorted works of Tibetan art, and the dark green tables and chairs rest upon scattered brown tatami mats all melding into a single picture of beauty and comfort. Sitting inside the charming coffee house, you have a view of the lovely courtyard with its blooming flowers and fruit-bearing trees, making the interior and exterior of the hostel flow into one beautiful whole.
