Green Tortoise Hostels have been the favorite of backpackers and travelers for decades. If you're looking for a sterile, dull hostel that you can forget about the moment you leave San Francisco, the Tortoise isn't it. The rooms are all non-smoking with large lockers under the bed to store your gear safely, comfortable beds with reading lights & 4 individual outlets per bunk, and new friends to meet. Our private rooms give you a real home away from home feel with comfy beds so you can chill out and have quiet time with your travel mate.

Our hostel is located in San Francisco, also home of green tortoise adventure travel and our sister hostel is located in Seattle on the market!!


Important: we currently accept Visa*, Mastercard* and us cash for payment at the hostel. Sorry, no personal checks can be accepted. *A surcharge may apply if you pay by credit card.
Please note that there is a $20 cash key deposit for each person which is returned upon checkout. The key deposit must be paid in cash. Sorry, but the key deposit cannot be put on your credit card.
An additional 14% hotel tax will be added to your total reservation price at check-in on all private rooms and on dorm beds from may 27-Oct 15th. A (tid - tourist improvement district tax) of 1.5% is also charged year long by the city.
Checkout is at 11:00 am.

Check in begins upon availability.

Our luggage room is available for those times before and after.

We have a 48 hour cancellation policy.

A discount parking coupon is available at check-in for a nearby parking garage.



A $20 refundable key deposit is due in cash at check in for EACH person, as well as the balance on your reservation - we take cash or Visa and Mastercard. An additional 14% hotel tax will be added to your total reservation price at check-in on private rooms & dorms on weekends (June-Oct). A (TID - tourist improvement district tax) of 1.5% is charged year long by the city on dorms and privates. The total price for a dorm bed / night with all taxes included at check-in is $30.15
