At the moment, Hostels.com works with around 580 hostels across China. Of these hostels, a large percentage is now operated by international hostelling company, YHA. In fact, almost one in five hostels in China is now YHA controlled. The remaining hostels are independently run but private owners.
When staying at a hostel in China, the two main room types you'll come across are dorm rooms and private double rooms. The nightly rates for these rooms generally include service charges, bed linen and luggage storage facilities.
If you're planning to holiday in China and intend to stay in a hostel, it should be noted that summer is the peak season. This means that during July and August, and also during the Golden Holidays in May and October, it's best to book your accommodation in advance. The same goes for tourist favourites like Hangzhou and Suzhou. If you're planning to stay in these cities, especially on weekends, it's a good plan to book your bed beforehand.
