The host Alonso is your perfect starting point. The hostel is ideally close to the airport Santamaria and Alonso, who was a ranger for most of his life and even trained rangers in their job, is full of advice and pleasant culinary surprises during your stay.

Owner is nice guy, good guide as well until we got scammed by his friend who´s a taxi driver and ripped us off. Otherwise, we were the only ones there and had all the attention, it was clean and reasonable.

Alajuela Tropical Hostel was absolutely a wonderful place to stay my first two nights in Costa Rica. Alonso, the owner, is extremely considerate and accomodating towards his guests, and makes you feel completely comfortable in his home. The breakfast is great and the free pìck up from the airport is extremely helpful when arriving in a new country for the first time. Definitely stay here!
