My first stay at Ashlee House was during summer of 2000. On my next visit in summer 2008, I found that while the hostel has had a cosmetic renovation in the public areas, the electrical and plumbing fixtures (especially toilets and showers) have had little or no improvement in eight years. Overall I would rate this as an average hostel in an excellent location. Some renovations to the bathrooms could move it into an "outstanding" category.

Location was excellent. Showers were terrible. There was a massive leak from 2nd floor, right down to basement when I was there, so my view on cleanliness might be tainted. At least it was fairly cheap! The staff were all quite helpful - I was allowed to store my bike in the luggage room at nights (I wouldn't want to leave it outside in that part of town).

The hostel looks good, the breakfast was an added bonus and had a good atmosphere in which to meet people. The Irish guy helping to serve breakfast was good fun too! The room was ok, though the beds were a little short. I got slightly over charged which I informed the hostel about, they have been very helpful and friendly in their manner about refunding me the amount I was over charged. These things can happen easily. I'm very happy with them and would definitely stay there again.
