Really gerat place to stay. Location for city centre isn't great but there is plenty of transport to get you there. Place is great . Staff are really friendly and helpful. Rooms are simple but clean and nice. Sanctuary, for girls only is great and fels very safe.

The emphasis is heavily about partying, which is fine but it can be a bit much if you intend on sleeping, as the downstairs bar was clearly audible until the early hours thurs-sat. The kitchen is inadequate (and often dirty) for the number of people and don't be surprised if you're awoken by the sound of other people having sex in the middle of the night or drunken youngsters stumbling around, especially in the 8-bed dorms. 4-bed dorms are worth the extra cash. In a perfect world, all hostels would like Base St Kilda. The hostel's clean, safe, has lots of amenities/ facilities, there's a travel agent/ centre linked to the hostel, the staff are young, fun and helpful AND there are social events on most nights (incl Thurs and Fri are the BIG parties). Just keep in mind that it's a $15-20 cab ride from downtown Melbourne to St Kilda if you want party in the CBD til after midnight...
