The hostel is a 5 minute walk to the busy Thamal area of Kathmandu. It, like all hotels in the country, suffers from power outages however it makes up for it with solar power to power most of the important parts of the building. Being so close to The busy area is good for those wanting to venture in however it is also great being far enough away to enjoy the quiet of the rooftop overlooking the Monkey Temple. The staff are great and helpful in tours around the city and/or country as well. Greg, from New Zealand ~ 25th Dec 2012

The staff of this hostel was very helpful and kind. They gave us lots of info and didnt push us to buy their packages. There is internet and good breakfast. It wasnt right in downtown, but it wasnt noisy. No A/C. Cristobal, from Chile ~ 11th Jul 2012

Avalon house is a good choice for a stay in Thamel area, very close to the central shops area, but not in the middle of it. IThe staff were great, I always felt as if they would do the best to help you get to know Nepal. Very helpfull! Some good discounts on air tickets too. Some of the rooms get a lot of street noise but by about 10 pm it's pretty quiet . Security good as the guard is a good guy and won't let someone in who shouldn't be there, but it's a safe area I felt. Nice roof terrace David, from USA ~ 28th Jun 2012

You can trust Avalon House. The location is excellent if you want to stay away from Thamel, but still be close enough to walk to it (10 mins) The owner runs the house very efficiently and the staff are extremely helpful. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfasts on the rooftop which overlooks the city.. It's a cheerful place and it proved to be a good base for us in Nepal. Karl, from England ~ 15th Apr 2012

Hostel was in a good location, private room cheap although no dorm sort of facilities. Out of the way of Thamel just enough so you are woken by Buddhist prayers and bells and not car horns and traffic accidents. Staff are excellent and very knowledgeable. Would stay there again in KTM.
