Very unfriendly staff. The younger staff was ok, but the 30 year old female was snappy and annoyed by the guests. Everything we asked was 'too much to handle' for her. The common room was nicely decorated but in total contrast with the atmosphere which was cold & distant. Every individual was behind their laptop, not even lifting their head up as someone walked in the room. It's an ideal place for anti-socials. I'm sorry to tell you that cleanliness was not good in the room or the corridors. Also bathroom for ladies looked untidy, the shower didn't work properly and, water kept on running so that the whole room was humid waterdrops on the wall and the ceiling. The laundry room and the stairway to the bath and laundry room was dirty. There was bad smell in the corridor outside our room. The corridor was noisy: people kept on walking and talking and banging doors in the stairs and corridor very late Katri, from Finland ~ 15th Jul 2012

The hostel is actually a converted church, so it's really cool. One downside is that it's easy to hear people talking in the hallway or slamming doors, but other than that, no complaints. Not too far of a walk from the Haymarket train station, and a few minutes longer to get to the city center. Reception is friendly and has good suggestions for things to do. The hostel have a very poor security system but most of the guests and Scots are honest persons. The showers are clean enough but you cant regulate the temperature of water (it is warm but you can not turn it realy hot or cold) Also they are stacionary so washing up legs or intimate parts could be dificult especialy for women.
