cheap but facilities are old and not that clean. Gyuwon, from South Korea ~ 22nd Nov 2012

A bit way off downtown and train station, but the city is compact enough for easy walking, and some good-value eating options are nearby. The front desk is staffed with nice and friendly people, they are particularly useful for pointing local sites of interest and a city map that is very helpful anyway. The squeaking bed as in an average hostel, though light continental breakfast and free WiFi make this place an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers looking for basic standards. It takes about 15 mins on foot to go to bus/train station from the hostel. Most staffs are kind but not all staffs. Just curiosity. Why we can't use the other building kitchen? There are always full of people. Which means, I had to go to main building for just using a kitchen (FYI, they have 2 buildings) even though the weather was raining! Staff was great, very helpful. Great location with easy access to everything. If I'm ever in Portland again, I'll be staying here! Hannah, from USA ~ 9th Oct 2012

Good location not too far from two streetcar and one bus line. The hostel is located in a very nice historic house, carefully preserved. A lot of information about the city is available. The bathroom was squeaky clean, and the shower stalls were spacious and convenient, with good-quality showers. The kitchen is clean and convivial, but has precious little workspace for food preparation. The bunk beds seemed rather fragile and creaked whenever someone rolled in bed. i'd redo the bathrooms, main kitchen, and add larger washer dryers for the staff lots of towels and sheets to wash the little ones in that room is too small for the entire complex. love the garden and stage it's a wonderful place for intimate concerts.love the sense of community within the hostel and neighborhood. peter, from USA ~ 5th Sep 2012

A decent place. They go super quiet at 10pm. So maybe not a place for late nighters. Jason, from USA ~ 3rd Sep 2012

Had a fantastic stay. The staff were outstanding & exceptionally helpful. Though many of my plans were on the east side of town, it was worth the bike back to the hostel each night. Stayed in 3 separate rooms over the course of my stay & each one was very clean & well kept. Jeff, from Canada ~ 1st Sep 2012

In a three-night stay I found the hostel comfortable and charming.I enjoyed being a very short walk from NW 21st and 23rd Avenues, a pair of fun streets.Transportation to other good places was an equally short walk, while Downtown was a longer but still enjoyable walk away.My bed was comfortable, and I slept well. The in-room bathroom could be noisy with its timed, motion-detector light/fan, and the shower head was tricky, but all was good and usable.Staff and postings gave good tips.
