amazing!! the people were great & the staff very friendly. kitchens are spacious and well kept. the showers are clean. within walking distance of basically everything. A++ would return again. Some of the night staff were defensive, impatient, quick to anger, intimidating, and just plain rude to the extent that it diminished my entire experience in Edinburgh. I will never again book a bed at High Street Hostel and I will actively recommend to all that they actively avoid High Street Hostel. Unfriendly staff there can quickly ruin your day. Spent two nights here, two women in a four-person dorm. It's in a really great location not far from Edinburgh Waverly (though an uphill climb to get there), and located just off the Royal Mile! I had nothing major to complain about at all the staff was very helpful and friendly. The foam mattresses were thin, but not uncomfortable and the bathroom/sheets were clean, though old-looking. I felt very secure, and the atmosphere was warm and fun. Only issue? No elevator, but it's an old building. Madeline, from USA ~ 27th Oct 2012

Lockers in dorms. Nice area downstairs and in the basement. WiFi didn't work when I was there which was a little annoying and they didn't manage to fix it during the three days I was there which I think a little too long as travellers depend on it.
