The hostel is in a good location and feels very safe, the staff don´t speak much english but are nice. The communal area is very quiet so i wouldn´t reccomend it if you want to meet people. The kitchen area is good and helps to keep cost down as you can cook your own food.

we stayed at Alcala on the five nights we were in Quito during our month in ecuador - it was great - the rooms we had (11 and 10) were big, hostal is convenient for shops, eating and transport, had good and safe storage for luggage and valuables, staff were friendly even without much english, constant hot water for drinks and good coffee at breakfast - those who know Ecuadorian coffee will understand the significance of that! Was pretty quiet whenever we were there but February is not high seas
