The hotel is certainly clean and has a swimming pool - these two are clear benefits in the middle of the desert. However, the rate through Hostelworld i DOUBLE (!!!) what you'd get if you just came to them from the street. Hostelworld's rate was 405 Rs for a double - they sell the same double for 200 Rs. The owner was "sorry" but expained that it was my fault that "I got tricked". Can you imagine? Most hotels on Hostelworld offer discounts because you book well in advance and they can plan their capacity - and here you've got a "customer lock-in". Once you book, there is no way back. I managed to get "a discount" from the Internet rate, but the situation was really nasty and the people managing the hotel do not belong to the honest type. PS. Don't even dare to consider their camel safaris: their offer is 3000 Rs for somethng you get for 500-600 Rs in numerous agencies in the city. They are VERY intimidating once you come in the morning to check in - hard sell techniques, you wait for the room and they try to talk you into this. And can turn out quite unpleasant once you suggest that you need more time to shop around... But still, a good place to stay in the extremely hot Jaisalmer.

I had brilliant stay at the Hotel Golden City, the rooms werer clean and the swimming pool a great asset especially in the heat of the summer. The staff were very helpful and got me anything I required. I also went on their camel safari which was great fun and I suggest anyone using the hotel use them.

owner Gazi Helpfull. Pool a real treat. Apparently will be offering fixed price Camel Safaris soon which will be good and save hassle. A very good place to stay in Jaisalmer
